I drew a new face for my Fancy Animal painting. I'm not sure if I like it better or not but I'd better get started on the painting soon or I'll never finish this.

Fancy Animal assignment color comp

I'm taking Chris Oatley's Magic Box class on line. It's really great. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn about making digital art.
It has taken me a long time to finish this first part of the assignment mostly because I got quite frustrated with learning photoshop. I think I am finally starting to get the hang of it.

Beard

 This weeks topic for Illustration Friday was Beard. Mountain Goats have awesome beards!
When I was a kid I remember being amazed by my Dad's uncanny ability to spot mountain goats.
Any time we were traveling through the mountains Dad was always on the lookout for mountain goats. He would strain his neck to look out the windshield and would point at a mountain. "There's a mountain goat! And another one! and two more over there!" I'm pretty sure Mom took hold of the steering wheel on these occasions. My siblings and I would take the binoculars and look where he was pointing and sure enough we could see the tiny white specks on the mountains.

Contraption

For this weeks Illustration topic Contraption  I went with a scene from the movie The Great Race.
This is one of Professor Fate's many contraptions that is doomed for failure. There are a lot of laughs in this movie. However I wouldn't recommend watching the entire movie in one sitting as the silliness can really drag on. It is better to watch it over two nights.

Temptation

For this weeks IF challenge I decided to keep things simple. I used only five colors in my palette.
I also used only flat colors and didn't worry too much about making it perfect. Overall I'm pretty happy with the result and I think I captured the temptation that this cat is feeling.

Retro

This is an image I was doing for Illustration Friday's topic Retro but I didn't finish it in time. I'm not too happy with the end result. I completed the figure first before putting in any background and as a result I couldn't find a color that worked. I am going to have to think about value more and the image as a whole before I just dive in and start drawing. It would probably be I good idea to limit my color pallet to just two or three colors or at least work out a value scale first.

Lately I've been interested in drawing Canadian wildlife. Mountain goats and bald eagles are next on my list.

Sparkle

The whole child beauty pageant thing makes me uncomfortable but I do get the desire to dress up in pretty dresses. What girl doesn't want to be a princess or the belle of the ball at least sometimes.
Lately I've been a bit obsessed with looking at bridal gowns and prom dresses. It took some willpower to stop myself from buying a bridal magazine the other day.
I really enjoyed making this drawing. I tried a few new techniques and had fun adding the 'sparkle' to it.

bellhop

Here is a fun little character sketch that I just finished. I think I might do another version and make it an elevator time machine. I could practice making some mysterious lighting and maybe some fog or mist.
